In a move that sent the internet into a frenzy, Sampa The Great dropped a 12-track visual album with zero prior announcement. The project — titled "Roots, Rivers & Rain" — is a love letter to Zambia, shot entirely in Lusaka, Livingstone, and the Copperbelt.
"I wanted people to see home the way I see it," Sampa told The Guardian Africa in an exclusive interview. "Not just the beauty, but the truth."
The album has already racked up over 2 million streams in its first 48 hours, with the lead single "Kafue Blue" trending in 11 countries.
Critical Reception
Critics have called it her most personal work yet. Pitchfork awarded it an 8.7, writing that "Sampa weaves ancestral rhythm with contemporary production in a way that feels both ancient and inevitable."
